20th March 2026Travel Plan
The Barton Manor School Travel Plan sets out how the school will manage and improve travel to and from site as pupil numbers expand, with a strong focus on safety, health and sustainability. Its aims are to reduce congestion and unsafe parking on Spring Lane, encourage more pupils and staff to walk, cycle or use public transport, and reduce reliance on car journeys.
Key targets to be achieved by October 2026 include increasing pupil cycling from 8% to 16%, increasing pupil walking from 30% to 50%, reducing pupil car travel from 52% to 30%, increasing staff car sharing to 9%, and reducing staff single occupancy car use from 70% to 65%. Travel patterns are monitored through annual surveys, with data shared with staff and governors, and the plan reviewed annually to ensure it remains effective as the school grows towards its planned capacity of 1,050 pupils by 2028.
In addition, the school aims to encourage greater uptake of electric vehicles among staff, supported by future charging provision. We are also aiming to introduce Bikeability training for pupils to improve confidence and road safety.
