MP Hosts Question Time Event at Barton Manor School
Posted on: 17/12/2025Last week, students from Barton Manor School and Barton Court Grammar School had the valuable opportunity to take part in an informative Q&A session with local leaders about issues shaping life in Canterbury.
This event came about as a result of a Trust Eco School event in the summer, attended by students from Barton Court Grammar School, Barton Manor School and The Charles Dickens School, who had penned a letter to Ms Rosie Duffield, Member of Parliament for Canterbury, around their concerns on Public Safety, Housing, Transport and the Environment.
On receipt of the letter, Ms Duffield was keen for the questions posed to be answered and therefore proposed an event with a panel for the students to address their questions to. The panel consisted of:
- Mr Paul Stoner, Chief Inspector, Kent Police
- Cllr Alan Baldock, Leader of Canterbury City Council
- Cllr Peter Osbourne, Cabinet Member for Highways and Transport
- Cllr Spencer Dixon, Deputy Cabinet Member for Highways and Transport
- Cllr David Wimble, Cabinet Member for Environment
Our students listened carefully, asked thoughtful questions, and gained a deeper understanding of how decisions are made at local and national levels. It was a fantastic opportunity for them to learn directly from those responsible for shaping policy and services in our area.
We are proud of the way our students engaged with these complex issues and represented our Schools so well. Thank you to all who contributed to making this event such an informative and worthwhile experience.
