Year 8 Explore the Art of Photography on Cultural Capital Day
Posted on: 11/02/2026As part of this term’s Cultural Capital Day on Friday 6 February, a group of enthusiastic Year 8 students took part in a GCSE Photography Taster Session, led by Mrs Maddison and Mr Billington.
Throughout the workshop, students were introduced to a range of photographic equipment and studio techniques. They explored creative approaches including Rembrandt portrait lighting and experimented with producing beautiful Bokeh effects, gaining a real insight into the kind of skills developed at GCSE level.
The Year 8s approached every activity with impressive enthusiasm and creativity, fully embracing the opportunity to try something new. The session proved to be a fantastic way for students to discover their interest in photography ahead of their Options Evening in Term 4.
