Barton Manor Science Week 2026
Posted on: 20/03/2026Between Monday 9 March and Friday 13 March, all Key Stage 3 students stepped away from the traditional curriculum to immerse themselves in a vibrant and curiosity driven Science Week. With this year’s theme centred on curiosity, students embraced the chance to explore a wide range of hands on experiments designed to spark wonder, creativity and scientific thinking.
Year 7 students took part in a “Witchcraft and Wizardry” programme, where they extracted precious limonene from oranges, transformed ordinary copper coins into ‘gold’, made CDs levitate and even created their own holograms.
Year 8 students focused on survival themed science, tackling experiments that could help them if stranded on a desert island. Their investigations included building a water powered fan, writing hidden messages using natural invisible ink, constructing a coconut based carbon filter to purify water and completing a fish dissection to deepen their understanding of anatomy.
Science Week was a fantastic celebration of practical inquiry, teamwork and the joy of discovering how the world works – fuelled entirely by the students’ own curiosity.
