World Book Day 2026 at Our School
Posted on: 06/03/2026Yesterday, book characters seemed to step straight off the page and into our classrooms and corridors as we celebrated our first whole-school World Book Day dress-up event. As part of the National Year of Reading, we are encouraging everyone in our community to go all in on reading – celebrating stories, sharing favourite books, and recognising the joy that reading can bring.
From the moment students and staff arrived, the School was filled with colourful costumes and familiar characters. Among the many brilliant outfits were two Cat in the Hats, two Katniss Everdeens, the Hungry Caterpillar, Tweedledum and Tweedledee, an Oompa Loompa, Aslan from Narnia, and of course Harry Potter. The English Department joined in the fun by representing a range of characters from our GCSE set texts; something I am sure Year 10 appreciated the most!
A special mention goes to our costume prize-winners, Mr Pay, Mr Nowers, Miss Parker and Mr Billington, whose creative efforts certainly stood out.
Our library was a hive of activity throughout the day, with students popping in to read, borrow books or take part in the activities on offer. One of the highlights was the Key Characters Scavenger Hunt, which sent students around the school searching for hidden literary clues.
Thank you to everyone who took part and helped make the day such a positive celebration of reading across the School. It was wonderful to see books and stories brought to life and to share the message that reading really is everywhere.
