BMS Students Shine During Duke of Edinburgh Practice Expeditions
Posted on: 28/04/2026Last weekend, students from Barton Manor School (BMS) successfully completed their practice Duke of Edinburgh (DofE) Bronze and Silver Award Expeditions, with the weather thankfully on their side throughout.
The expeditions gave students the opportunity to test their navigation, teamwork and camping skills ahead of their final assessed journeys in the next few months. Overall, the standard shown by students was extremely high.
Mr Goss, Duke of Edinburgh’s Coordinator at BMS, praised the efforts of all participants, but highlighted two students in particular for their outstanding preparation and leadership.
Ahmad (Year 9) impressed staff with how well prepared he was for the overnight camp. Demonstrating excellent planning skills, Ahmad even treated his team to fresh pancakes in the morning, using a pancake mix he had prepared at home in advance.
Rahimah (Year 10) was commended for her exceptional map reading and navigation skills. Despite not being involved in the expedition last year, her confidence and accuracy far exceeded expectations. Mr Goss noted that her navigation was “amazing” and “levels above where I expected her to be”.
With the practice expeditions completed successfully, students are now looking ahead to the final qualifying events, with the Bronze expedition taking place in May and the Silver expedition scheduled for June.
Well done to all involved.
