Barton Manor Year 7 Students Enjoy Historical Trip to Canterbury
Posted on: 03/10/2025On the first Cultural Capital Day of the school year, Barton Manor School’s Year 7 students embarked on their very first secondary school trip — a journey into the rich history of Canterbury.
The day began with a visit to Canterbury Cathedral, where students explored the stunning architecture and soaked in the atmosphere of one of England’s most iconic religious sites. Their visit coincided with a truly historic moment: the appointment of the 106th Archbishop of Canterbury, Sarah Mullally — the first woman ever to hold the position.
Inside the Cathedral, students learned about the dramatic story of Thomas Becket and discovered the important roles monks played in the life of the Cathedral. They were captivated by the tales and the grandeur of the building.
The group then visited the Roman Museum, where they delved into Canterbury’s Roman past. Students had the opportunity to create their own Roman coins, which they proudly took home as souvenirs — a hands-on way to connect with history.
To round off the day, students explored the Beaney Museum, where they examined fascinating artefacts and learned more about Canterbury’s cultural heritage.
Overall, it was a fantastic day filled with learning, discovery, and unforgettable moments. We’re confident it’s a trip the students will remember for many years to come.
